The repercussions of the provocative visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan are still interacting and attracting reactions from the Chinese side, which sees this visit as an insult to its sovereignty, given that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory.
New to these repercussions is what the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced about the sanctions it imposed on Pelosi, in response to her visit to Taiwan.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan “seriously interferes with China’s domestic politics, and therefore seriously undermines China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity with her visit to Taiwan.” Considering that Pelosi has dealt a “severe blow” to the “one China” principle, which endangers peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
“Based on the legislation of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese side decided to impose sanctions on Pelosi and her close family members after her provocative actions,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In the same context, the Chinese Foreign Ministry summoned diplomats from the European Union and the leadership of the European Union delegation in China, following the statement of the G7 summit on Taiwan.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that “this statement distorts the facts and should be considered an interference in China’s internal affairs,” noting that Beijing views such speech as “an outright political provocation and a grave mistake, on the part of Western countries, and sends a wrong signal to the Taiwan separatists.”
China expressed strong protest against this position, and addressed the European countries: “In no case should you cross the red line. There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inseparable part of it.”
The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) had previously expressed their countries’ concern about China’s “threatening actions”, especially military exercises that might lead to an escalation of tension in the region, considering that the Chinese reaction to the visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, to Taiwan, ” threatens to escalate tension in the region.”
China canceled a meeting of its foreign minister with his Japanese counterpart, which was planned to be held in Cambodia, against the background of the G7 statement on the situation on Taiwan.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying announced that China may reconsider its dialogue with the G7 countries, if it does not change its position on the situation on Taiwan, saying: “If (the G7 countries) do not change its wrong position on the Taiwan issue, we will have to To reconsider the importance of dialogue (with her).”
Russia against the visit
Moscow condemned Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, likening the US position in Taiwan to its position in Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that the strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing is one of the foundations of the movement for the rule of law in international relations, and the principles of the UN Charter in the first place.
During his meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, on the sidelines of the activities of the ASEAN Organization in Cambodia, Lavrov stressed that the United States violates the principle of sovereign equality of countries, every day and everywhere, and said: “Of course we must respond to this, and we participate in cooperation with China in a group Friends for the Protection of the United Nations Charter (on the principle of sovereign equality of nations).
Lavrov pointed out that the attempts of the United States of America to spread its hegemony over more regions of the world have no prospects, and it reflects the policy of indifference practiced by the United States.
He explained that the United States “decided to turn Ukraine into a threat to Russia, and for many years it ignored the racist policy of the Kyiv regime, which was removing everything related to Russia, as it was with the visit of Mrs. Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan when she ignored all her own principles that she was proclaiming.” openly and persuades everyone to adhere to it, thus deceiving itself. Likewise, the principles of indivisible security, ratified at the highest level by America and subsequently trampled upon, have come to an end.”
Chinese maneuvers provoke Taiwan and the United States
In a practical measure, China launched massive military exercises around Taiwan, in response to Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, which Beijing considered a serious provocation.
Fighter planes, ships and warships are participating in these maneuvers, which continue to this day, and were interspersed with the launch of ballistic missiles.
Beijing announced that its maneuvers will continue until the middle of next Sunday, while Taipei announced that Chinese fighters and ships crossed the “middle line” that passes through the Taiwan Strait on Friday morning.
The Taiwanese military described the recent military exercises conducted by China as “very provocative”.
Today, Friday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken condemned the Chinese military exercises in the vicinity of Taiwan, describing them as a “major escalation”, considering that it is unjustified.
