We kick off our tour of British newspapers with a special The Independent investigation titled: ‘One of the leading universities, business school, received more than £700,000 via Russian banks days after invading Ukraine’.

An investigation conducted by Samuel Lovett and Simon Murphy for the newspaper indicates that one of Britain’s leading universities, the Business School, obtained nearly 15 million pounds, through a bank, controlled by the Kremlin, in less than a decade, including more of £700,000 in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

As part of efforts to put pressure on the Russian economy, the UK imposed sanctions on Sberbank, whose chief executive has been described as a close ally of Vladimir Putin, on March 1, according to the newspaper.

But an investigation by The Independent found that Imperial College London and London Business School have since secured more than £740,000 from Sberbank, funded by the Kremlin-controlled bank.
