It’s hard to find a video editing app that fits your needs, but it’s easy to see why. Sometimes it seems that software makers are conflicted about whether the app is for creating home videos or making high-quality Hollywood movies. The result is that many of the apps are lacking in features, while others are very complex and the best is Wondershare Filmora 11.
The best apps don’t make you choose between “powerful” and “easy to use”. They focus on giving you the tools to make your vision a reality, but they are intuitive and make it easy to achieve.
Filmora video editing software fits the idea of “the best of both worlds” perfectly. It has all the features you need to make a video, but you won’t spend hours watching YouTube tutorials to master the basics.
This helps you focus on your project – not learning to use the app itself.

How to use Wondershare Filmora 11
Let’s walk through a quick example on Filmora. My example will create a great video for a social platform like YouTube. Follow it by repeating these steps to learn how to edit video with Filmora:
- Start a new project
After you download and install Filmora, it’s time to start a new project. Open the app, then choose the dropdown option from Select Project Width for the project.
This setting affects the “look” of the video. The aspect ratio describes the width relative to the height of the final video. Because our screens are different, so should our video projects.
A good example is choosing the 1:1 option (Instagram). Square shaped content is still more popular on Instagram and this aspect ratio is ideal for the platform.
Aspect ratio How to use Filmora
Choosing the right aspect ratio optimizes the video for the final platform, making the most of your screen space.
For the example project in this tutorial, I’ll be using an aspect ratio of 16:9. This is the classic widescreen format, ideal for landscape mode on a mobile phone or most other devices. Many YouTube videos are uploaded natively at this aspect ratio.
