Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and Galaxy Buds 2: What’s the difference? – Future News

Samsung’s product catalog now contains both Pro and non-Pro versions of the Galaxy Buds 2, but how different are these two models? The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are newer than the Galaxy Buds 2, but is there anything else they do differently?

It may seem that Samsung is competing with itself. As it turns out, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and Galaxy Buds 2 have some key differences despite their confusingly similar names. We’ll look at some of them here and see how they compare.

design

These two models are very similar in terms of shape and overall design. Both are small, roughly oval shaped ear pads with silicone ear tips attached to one end. There is a less visible stem to attach to the ear tips on the Buds 2 Pro, and there is a larger block just above this area, while the Buds 2 don’t have these. Buds 2 come in graphite, bora purple, white, and olive colors, while Buds 2 Pro has the first three colors available, but not the last.

Buds 2 Pro forgo all the shiny surfaces, so it’s easier for you to grip.

Samsung says the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are 15% smaller than the previous iteration and have better airflow. It also has an IPX7 rating, so in addition to being sweat-resistant, it can survive immersion in water for up to 30 minutes. In contrast, Buds 2 only have an IPX2 rating, which means they can only handle some light splashing water.

For battery life, Samsung claims five hours of runtime with ANC enabled for the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro or up to eight hours without ANC. The Buds 2 are also rated for up to five hours of listening with ANC turned on. The earbuds on both models are rated at around 61mAh, but the Buds 2 charging case is 472mAh, while the Buds 2 Pro’s charging case is 512mAh, so there will be a slight difference in longevity. Both earbud models allow you to use Qi wireless charging, Samsung PowerShare, or USB-C to fill the case and the earphones.

Features

Both are Samsung earbuds and as such are designed to work best with Galaxy devices. They will also work with other Android phones, but some features will be missing.

In terms of Bluetooth codecs, you get AAC and SBC support when connected to most devices, while Galaxy phone owners can take advantage of the Samsung Scalable codec. On Samsung phones, you also get automatic device switching, but Buds 2 Pro adds this feature to Samsung TVs as well. The Galaxy Wearables app, which lets you control Samsung headphones, is exclusive to Android phones, so neither model is ideal for iPhone users.

Regulations

Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and Galaxy Buds 2 feature multifunctional touch controls. Samsung buds tend to have very sensitive touch controls – in fact, they are very sensitive. Both models use the Galaxy Wearables app to configure gestures. You can set specific taps and tap-and-hold actions to modify noise-cancelling settings, turn on ambient mode, toggle EQ presets, and more.

On the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, SmartThings Find can tell you if you’ve left your earbuds behind, even when you’re offline. Bixby is available on both sets of speakers, along with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. An ear tip test is also available for both models and does a good job of determining how well the buds fit inside your ears.

Noise canceling

Active noise cancellation is another area of improvement for the new Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. While it’s not a revolution, the manufacturer claims that the Buds 2 Pro can deliver an extra 3dB of attenuation when compared to its predecessor and “smart noise cancellation”. We will have to test these claims, since it is not clear whether the attenuation across each iteration is as an average value or for a given range. But for comparison, the previous Buds Pro actually outperformed the AirPods Pro in this department. The Buds 2 actually have better noise cancellation than the previous generation Buds Pro, and still perform well even by today’s standards.

Both earbuds should provide strong insulation as long as you can get a good seal with the silicone ear tips. Again, the Buds 2 have better isolation than the original Buds Pro headphones, but the new Galaxy Buds 2 Pro claims they’re smaller, lighter and better fit, with less rotation and ear pressure, which may help in this regard.

We haven’t yet had a chance to fully test the newly launched Buds 2 Pro headphones, but if their previous version is anything to go by, they’ll produce a solid frequency response that most people will love. The new version includes support for 360 Reality Audio and Dolby Atmos on Galaxy phones. Buds 2 also support spatial audio, although head tracking is said to be improved on the newer model.

Both earphones only allow you to use the EQ presets to tweak their sound profiles. However, our tests found that the previous Galaxy Buds Pro had a consumer-friendly frequency response curve, along with the Buds 2, so we don’t expect the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro to deviate significantly from these. The new generation supports 24-bit audio playback with Galaxy devices as well, while Buds 2 don’t have this feature.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and Galaxy Buds 2: Which Should You Buy?

The Galaxy Buds 2 Pro bring some welcome improvements to Samsung’s line of earbuds, and overall they’re a good choice for most people. With improved ANC, support for more spatial audio formats, and a clearer surface, it may not break new ground, but it is developing in the right direction.

However, the Galaxy Buds 2 are much cheaper nowadays. So, if cost is your main concern, they still have a useful set of features and solid ANC. Of course, Galaxy phone owners will be the ones who get the most out of both pairs of earbuds.
