The easiest and quickest way to dramatically improve battery life is to use the Power Mode control in the taskbar. In general, if your computer’s battery must remain on, you may want to turn off the screen after two minutes and put your laptop to sleep after four or five minutes.
Maintaining your display is the biggest drain on your laptop battery. So if you need to keep your computer running, you should lower your screen brightness as much as possible. In the start button search box, type “screen brightness” and click “Change brightness level” when you see it appear in the search results.
Then, in the display settings, drag the brightness slider to the far left as far as you can comfortably navigate it. Use the keyboard shortcut to lower the screen brightness.

You can come back here later to turn it back on again. Like smartphones, Windows now tries to keep some apps running in the background to create a better user experience. But allowing too many apps to run in the background can drain your battery quickly.
